Sonya Brinson Lawhorn, is the Discharge Planner / Reentry Coordinator for Correct Care Solutions (CCS) at the Gwinnett County Detention Center. She serves the purpose of assisting inmates in finding needed services in the community. She also assists released inmates in accessing medication until such time that they can become connected with community partners to fill this need. Sonya is now member and Treasurer of the Metro Atlanta Re-Entry Coalition (M.A.R.C.). Affiliated with the Gwinnett Reentry Intervention Program (GRIP). Attends weekly Mental Health and Veterans Courts. Previously employed at Gwinnett Medical Center where she was a Mental Health Advocate for 5 and a half years and still remains on PRN status. Sonya is a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Decatur, Ga. Sonya received her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Sonya is a 2011 Leadership Rochester graduate. In 1994, Sonya graduated of the United Way African American Leadership Development Program. Sonya is a highly motivated and seasoned advocate with more than twenty plus years of progressive experience in all areas of Youth Counseling and working with those dealing with Mental Health issues.
